THE DEFEAT is an autobiographic film that realistically began its filming in 2008. I say realistically because when I bought the video camera which I filmed it with it was 2003 and I was 16 years old. From that date until 2007 I did some projects and filmed some small scenes at home with friends and family as mere fun.

In 2008 I started to become interested in documentary filmmaking and I envisioned a series of movies that made me think about the possibility of making a feature film with recordings that I had made since 2003. I was quick to throw out that idea and everything that I had filmed up until that moment, I was left with only a couple of images, and I started from zero thinking that time would give me the story and the shape that I was looking for to make this film.

While I filmed my family, my friends and my partner, I found some tapes that my father had filmed more than 10 years ago. I realised that in those tapes my father was using a pattern to film the people he had around him. He wasn't a filmmaker but he had a curious way of seeing reality. So I decided to take some of these family films and include them in what I had already filmed up until that date and to start to work with a new idea.

As I was using a handheld camera and these are used for filming moments you want to remember, such as personal and family victories. I decided to use the camera the other way round. I got my friends and partner together and we verbalised all of our problems. Everything that had hurt us and that we should have gotten over and not keep as a memory. I discovered a childhood trauma that I had forgotten and I understood then that this trauma continued to be very present in my life.

The camera led us to face a series of truths that we had no intention to accept. The filming finished at the end of 2015 and my life at that moment was completely different compared to when I started to film.
